Another one of my favorites, Non-Format

Kjell Ekhorn (Norwegian) and Jon Forss (British) have worked together as the creative direction & design team Non-Format since 2000. They work on a range of projects including art direction, design, illustration and custom typography for arts & culture, music industry, fashion and advertising clients. They have art directed the independent music monthly The Wire and also Varoom: the journal of illustration and made images.

ART & COPY is a powerful new film about advertising and inspiration. Directed by Doug Pray (SURFWISE, SCRATCH, HYPE!), it reveals the work and wisdom of some of the most influential advertising creatives of our time — people who’ve profoundly impacted our culture, yet are virtually unknown outside their industry. Exploding forth from advertising’s “creative revolution” of the 1960s, these artists and writers all brought a surprisingly rebellious spirit to their work in a business more often associated with mediocrity or manipulation: George Lois, Mary Wells, Dan Wieden, Lee Clow, Hal Riney and others featured in ART & COPY were responsible for “Just Do It,” “I Love NY,” “Where’s the Beef?,” “Got Milk,” “Think Different,” and brilliant campaigns for everything from cars to presidents. They managed to grab the attention of millions and truly move them. Visually interwoven with their stories, TV satellites are launched, billboards are erected, and the social and cultural impact of their ads are brought to light in this dynamic exploration of art, commerce, and human emotion.

The Art of Photography Show 2009 is a world-class international exhibition featuring all forms of photographic art — images shot on film, shot digitally, unaltered shots, alternative process, mixed media, digital manipulations, montages, photograms, etc. The Art of Photography Show will be exhibited at the two-level Lyceum Theatre Gallery, a perfect venue for exhibiting a large showcase of awesome photographic art.

Michael Paul Young who is one half of We Work For Them/You Work For Them has launched a new website for his personal work. He has some really stunning work in his portfolio. He also has a really gorgeous video project (that you can watch above) completed for none other than U2.

Freshjive becomes brandless Spring 2010

“Beginning with our spring 2010 line,” states Rick Klotz, founder of the hip-hop streetwear clothing line Freshjive, “we will no longer be using our brand logo or name on any of our product, including all labeling and t shirt designs.” Further, in an exclusive interview for The Hundreds, Rick elaborates that “I’m not the type of person that buys something for the brand name. I’ve also never done a very good job at creating a captivating identity to our own brand logo.” Can a clothing label survive without a logo? I wonder if the level of publicity this no-logo approach generates between now (it’s already on the Huffington Post) will create enough non-brand awareness that the no-logo will become, well, a logo in itself.

What an awesome summer I’ve had.

Surfed this beautiful San Diego south swell

Visited Texas for one of my best friend’s (Jonathan Sato’s) wedding. So happy for both of them!

Got to see family.

I’ve also had this amazing opportunity to intern with The Keva Dine Agency. So fun, I have learned so much.Coolest people to work for.

Maintained my 4.0 in school. Ready and excited to start the fall semester.
